Potential indicators of river habitat modification for national monitoring

This report recommends river habitat modification indicators that can be used for national environmental reporting under the Environmental Reporting Act. The following five indicators were determined to be suitable for initiating a national monitoring and reporting programme for river habitat modification: riparian vegetation type, presence of channel engineering, presence of stopbanks, river planform measurements, and presence of potential fish passage barriers.
