The Environmental Protection Authority required administrative changes to the Climate Change (Unit Register) Regulations 2008 for the redevelopment of the New Zealand Emission Unit Register. This regulation change is published in the Climate Change (Unit Register) Amendment Regulations 20141[New Zealand Legislation website].
On 1 December 2014, the amendment regulations were approved by Cabinet. The changes were published in the New Zealand Gazette on 4 December 2014.
1 The Climate Change (Unit Register) Amendment Regulations 2014 also includes changes to give effect to an earlier decision to prohibit the surrender of certain first commitment period (CP1) Kyoto units after 1 June 2015. These CP1 Kyoto units are Certified Emission Reduction Units (CERs), Emission Reduction Units (ERUs) and Removal Units (RMUs). For more information see Consultation on domestic carry-over provisions.
