The purpose of the RMA Education and Advisory Fund is to increase community-based advice, educational opportunities and public information about environmental legislation, particularly the RMA. We are hoping to improve public understanding of, and participation in, RMA processes.
The Ministry works closely with service providers, supplying publications including “An Everyday Guide to the RMA”. The existing RMAINFO service provided by the Ministry complements services delivered through the RMA Education and Advisory Services Fund.
Applications for funding are called for at least once a year and applications are carefully assessed to ensure services provided are to a high standard and are value for money. Criteria are set out in the Call for Applications (sample document below).
The Fund has been fully subscribed for the 2009/2010 year, with three service providers have been successful in the funding round:
These organisations provide free resource management advice ranging from simple queries regarding preparing a resource consent application or making a submission, through to more complex matters such as preparing and lodging appeals. The Environmental Defence Society and Community Law Canterbury will be running community workshops to aid public participation in resource management processes.
Applications will be called for in the first half of 2010 for the 2010/2011 funding round.
