Historic Heritage workshops

These workshops look at the scope of heritage management under the RMA and the range of approaches used. The material they cover includes:

  • The nature and scope of historic heritage
  • Relevant legislation and agency roles and responsibilities
  • The evolving nature of heritage
  • Using an assessment tool to evaluate a site / place / landscape
  • Developing effective heritage provisions at strategic, regulatory and non-regulatory levels
  • Local heritage management case studies.

Nine of these workshops were held in February and March 2007, in partnership with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI). A subsequent workshop was held in Hokitika in July in association with the local branch of the NZPI and Westland District Council.
