Freshwater for the Future: A supporting document

This paper outlines a proposed package of actions under the Sustainable Water Programme of Action (the Programme). This programme aims to improve the management of New Zealand’s freshwater resources. The proposed actions, which have been approved by Cabinet, build on an extensive public consultation process undertaken in early 2005, and a subsequent analysis of concerns about the current water management framework. These actions also reflect recent changes to the Resource Management Act 1991.
