February 2005, Ref. ME589

This report describes patterns in river water quality over the period 1989-2000 using data from monitoring sites in the national network operated by NIWA and Environment Southland regional network. The River Environment Classification (REC) is used to compare water quality between rivers in different climate, land use, topography and geology classes.
