Intractable Agricultural Chemicals in New Zealand

February 2006, ME717

New Zealand will have safely disposed of 225 tonnes of old and unwanted agricultural chemicals by June this year. The Ministry for the Environment and 13 regional councils have been working together to collect agricultural chemicals, mainly from rural properties, since 2003. The Ministry estimates that 175 tonnes of this material still remains to be collected after June 2006.
