New Zealand websites

Quality Planning website

The Quality Planning website promotes best practice under the Resource Management Act (RMA). Its library provides access to New Zealand publications on a range of urban topics.

Quality of Life

This site provides information on the quality of life in New Zealand’s twelve largest cities. It was initiated in response to growing pressures on urban communities, concern about the impacts of urbanisation and the effects of this on the well being of residents.

Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment is an independent environmental watchdog. This site contains a number useful reports on urban issues.

Local Government New Zealand

The LGNZ website provides information on current projects, events, news, and has links to numerous local government websites throughout New Zealand.

Local government online

This website provides information on New Zealand’s local government councils; a resource library with links or attachments to research and policy examples; links to many national and international organisations associated with local government; news and media releases; and ‘What's New ezine’ – a free weekly publication.

International websites

Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment

CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, is the UK government’s advisor on architecture, urban design and public space. CABE’s core activities include: helping public agencies with good design; supporting public agencies in boosting their in-house design expertise; conducting research and running campaigns on architecture, design and public spaces and encouraging the public to demand higher standards in buildings and spaces. This website has links to case studies, publications, teaching resources, news and events.

Smart growth

Smartgrowth is a way of managing urban growth and development. This includes town-centres, mixed use, open space and transport.

Resource for Urban Design Information (RUDI)

Resource for Urban Design Information (RUDI) is the largest web resource dedicated to urban design. RUDI commissions, researches and creates materials for professionals in the public and private sector.  Additionally, they provide access to studies, guidance, best practice and other documents.
