These website links offer a wealth of useful factual information about genetic modification and were chosen because they do not promote any particular point of view.

Government sites

The Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) makes decisions on applications to develop, import, research, field test or release genetically modified organisms.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry enforces the conditions imposed by ERMA on genetically modified organisms, ensures importers comply with laws on hazardous substances and new organisms, and administers some food legislation.

The New Zealand Food Safety Authority administers New Zealand's food safety programme. This includes administration of regulations relating to genetically modified food as developed by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (formerly the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Authority or ANZFA) under the joint food standards setting arrangements with Australia.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) develops food standards for New Zealand and Australia.

The Ministry of Research, Science and Technology (MORST) develops research and innovation policies and strategies, and manages the publicly funded research, science and technology, including biotechnology related to genetic modification.

Biotechnology Australia co-ordinates non-regulatory biotechnology issues for the Commonwealth Government of Australia while seeking to provide balanced and factual information on biotechnology.

Gene Technology in Australia aims to explain the science of gene technology, describe the work of Australian scientists and covers some aspects of public debate about gene technology.

Food Standards Agency is the UK food safety agency. Its site includes interactive educational material about genetic modification.

The Royal Society of New Zealand aims to bring together an informed and scholarly approach to scientific and technological questions, including those about genetic modification. Its website includes an overview of genetic modification, its applications and the issues surrounding GM.

Modern Biotechnology Activity in New Zealand is a report published in April 2001 by Statistics New Zealand on the results of a survey conducted among known participants in the biotechnology industry in 1998-99.

Colorado State University has put together this site about the technology and issues surrounding transgenic (genetically modified) crops.

New Scientist, the respected UK-based science magazine has a web pages devoted to stories about genetic modification, its applications and impacts.
